The male-menopause is a prelude to middle age and during this time of transition and upheaval we should take stock and appreciate the finer points of life and face the future with a plan for success rather than with no plan at all or with a spirit of gloom. If in a few years time you are going to be middle-aged why not lay the foundations at forty-plus for aging with style? Why look old when over the years you can improve like a good bottle of chateau burgundy. Maybe we cannot all look like Paul Newman or Clint Eastwood after fifty, or Cary Grant after sixty, but every man in his early forties can plan nonetheless to go into his middle years getting the most out of life. Having identified the symptoms and embarked on survival remember the next real problem is going to be one of aging and knowing that there is no such thing as eternal youth. Nor is it possible to extend one’s own lifespan radically. We are stuck with a body that is programmed to age but we can slow down its decay and make the most of it while there is life left in it.
